Scooters

A scooter is can describe several varieties of vehicles, however the term is most often used to refer to a vehicle resembling a small motorcycle, which a step up platform used to mount the vehicle, rather than the usual way that a person would mount a bike. Scooters such as this are extremely popular in Italy and if you were to visit an Italian city then you would almost certainly be able to see a myriad of scooters weaving in and out of the traffic. There are many manufactures of scooters in Italy, but Vespa is an extremely popular brand recognised worldwide, these scooters are considered to be highly fashionable.

The term scooter may also be commonly used to describe standing scooters, often made for and used by children as a means of play. The rider stands on the platform and can propel themselves along with one foot, using the handlebars to steer and change direction. Small collapsible scooters like this were briefly popular during the early 2000’s, but quickly faded out of vogue. Motorised standing scooters are also available although these are fairly unusual to see and are not road legal. A third product that the term scooter is frequently used to describe are the small mobility scooters that are frequently used by elderly and disabled people who may have trouble walking, these scooters are usually powered with a small electrical motor.
